Most encouraging verses: Jesus is Your Friend #Grace #Devotional

 Some of the most comforting words of Scripture were given by Jesus to His followers on the night He died on the cross. He states, better love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." That is a glorious friendship principle! Giving life to others... But the amazing next words are truly remarkable. Jesus states... "You are my friends."

Praise God for that! God gives us friendship... and the expression of that friendship is that He lays down his life for us. He did that on the cross as He died in our place. He truly gives up HIs life that we might be free. We demonstrate that we are His friends if we follow Him. That we follow HIs commands.

The Three Eclipses of the Bible and What They Mean Our eyes come across three eclipses in the Bible. The first one is when God judged Egypt for mistreating His children. This was one of the ninth of ten plagues... the final one before total rejection. "So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days" (Exodus 10:22). The second is the glorious one when Jesus is on the cross and the wrath of God for our sin is placed on Him. This darkness too lasted three hours. IN this time, God's wrath, the judgment for the sins of humanity was placed upon Jesus and He died in our place. "Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour" (Matthew 27:45). The third eclipse mentioned is yet to come. Lloyd Jones and Billy Graham – Association or Separation

I just finished Ian Murray’s biography on Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones.  His ministry is an inspiration to me.  I love the simple consistency he exhibited and his reliance upon God ordained methods to accomplish God’s purposes. One area I find Lloyd Jones exhibited great wisdom was how he graciously resisted the overwhelming tide of the ecumenism of his day. Dr. Lloyd Jones believed that the ends should not justify the means.  In the 1950’s, ecumenism in England was championed by most Evangelical leaders.  Leaders like J I Packer believed that they were to gain greater respect by association with and dialog within theologically liberal associations.  The hope was to heal the cancerous body from within by being a healthy cell.  His end goal – a more respected evangelical voice. His means – accommodation with theological error.
