The Purpose of the Law for You

Image
A s we finish the study of the Ten Commandments, we should consider the all important application question. What does this all mean? My father-in-law, who was a very practical man, told me to keep my teaching practical. A body of truth should be both insightful and helpful. “Let’s find a handle for this suitcase.” We have examined the 10 “dos” and “don’ts” of the Israeli Law, now, let’s try to understand the reason these are important to you. What should I do about these commands personally? To develop a handle for this suit- case, let’s answer two questions carefully: What happens if I don’t obey all the Ten Commandments all the time?  What is the ultimate purpose of the Ten Commandments? What Happens if I Don’t Obey the Ten Commandments All the Time? Perhaps at this point in our study you can name each of the Ten Commandments. That’s great! However, the primary purpose of our study is not just so that you would know each one of the Ten Commandments. The ...

Content of Faith - From the booklet - "How can I know that I have eternal life?"

The following quote is from the third booklet in the LIFE Groups "Growing" series.  In this booklet, we survey 1 John and the doctrine of a believer's Assurance of Salvation.  In the segment below I'm teaching the difference between the object of faith and the content of faith.   Simply stating, "I believe in Jesus" is not enough (object of faith).  Most important is the question, "What do you believe about Jesus (content of faith)?" I'm teaching through this booklet on Tuesday nights.  Lessons 1-3 are on our YouTube channel now, and we will be going through lesson four this Tuesday night (Tuesday, September 2nd).  See below for lesson 3.  Also, the full booklet is included via pdf below. " John presents specific truths about Jesus that we must believe.   This demonstrates a very important truth.   When it comes to assurance of salvation, faith is not the only factor we must examine.   We must also consider the...

Discerning God's Will - LIFE Groups Study 5 (Growing Series)

Image
One of the most common questions that I have asked of me as a pastor revolves around knowing God's will in life.  "Should I take this job?"  "Should I marry this person?"  "What should I study in College?"  Many of these questions have no aparent moral absolute recorded in Scripture.  So, what do we do?  This booklet highlights several bilbical principles to help us come to a settled confidence of God's will in a particular decision in life.  I trust the lessons and principles will be very helpful to you. You can  view the lessons and read along on through pdf below.  Or if you would like to use the booklet for a personal or group Bible Study, you can order the study here ($3 each, and $2 shipping and handling). A Summary of the Bible Message

Image
The Next LIFE Groups Booklet is online and available for order. This booklet is a is a six lesson survey of the content and message of the Bible. It is a good refresher for all Christians. It would also be a great introduction to Christianity to new believers, or to those who are just beginning to explore the Christian faith. Although it is designed for a small group format, it can be used effectively in one on one or individual studies. LIFE Groups Survey of the Bible Message by timrichmondnyc I think the study is a balanced approach (between covenant/dispensational frameworks)  which sticks to biblical theology rather than over-systematizing the message and content of Scripture. Below is the concluding summary of the booklet.  Please e-mail me with questions/comments.  If you would like to order a copy of the booklet for use in your church, Bible study group or private study, use paypal below.  They are $4 plus shipping and hand...
