  God's promises make our New Year positive no matter the negative prognosticating. Because our hope is in God, not in our circumstances. Peter calls these God's precious and magnificent promises. The next one we'll consider today is His promise of Wisdom. Do you need to know which way to go? Are you in a pickle? Then ask God for wisdom and He will provide it! "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5).

Another precious and magnificent promise that makes your future bright is: If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness!  What a joyful cleansing from guilt that is!  Today, embrace the promise of the Gospel, Christ had died to cleanse you from all your sin!

One of those that is most encouraging is His promise to be with you and help you. So, no matter what you face this year, you can face it with confidence knowing that the Lord is with you. God promises to be with you. Your future is bright! "Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?” New American Standard Bible Hebrews 13:5-6

Carey said, "The future is as bright as the Promises of God." Peter calls these our "precious and magnificent promises." They are the firm foundation you need to rest in as you look forward to a New Year. Fix your faith in what God has promised as an anchor for your soul. This week we’ll finish the year out with devotionals that do just that. Don’t define your future bleak today, your future is bright resting on those great and precious promises.

This season Christmas and New Years can be a great joy… But it is also a stressful time and for some a time of sadness because of past events that can slip into a period of sadness. So let’s look at ten practical Christian Tips to Curb the Sadness in the Christmas Season. WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU ARE FEELING BLUE THIS CHRISTMAS? We’ll try to end with the most important ones. 10 – Forgetting all Sadness is Impossible – It’s ok to weep a bit. Don’t pretend like you don’t miss someone. Don’t pretend that the pain wasn’t there. Don’t pretend that there’s not a bit more of a load right now. Don’t pretend like there’s sunshine all day for 15 hours a day. Accept it and move on. But move on from the pain to first - remember the good. It is interesting that in the Christian calendar, God orchestrates a weekly remembrance of the resurrection, but He also commands a remembrance of the cross that brings that salvation. Don’t forget the hard times. Remember the lessons there. 9 – Find Joy in Spiritu

700 Years before Jesus was born the prophet Isaiah for told there would be a child who would be given to us whose name would be called: Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Everlasting Father... Prince of PEACE!  Jesus is the Pathway to Peace – individually and internationally. He gives us peace with God through bearing our penalty for sin. He gives us peace with ourselves through resting in Him. He gives us peace with one another through taking on His nature as Peace-Makers. And One Day He will bring peace on earth internationally as He rules and reigns with in peace!

Yes, JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THIS 700 year old prophecy. He is the Everlasting Father!

Isaiah prophecies some wonderful qualities in the future Messiah's titles. The one that amazed them most must have been "Almighty God." Yes Jesus would be called God and He is all mighty. There is nothing He cannot do because He is God. This is so clearly spelled out in the Gospels as prophesied here 700 years before Jesus came - Son of God, Son of man, eternal Savior. Isaiah 9:6 - For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Consider these clear passages of Scripture... I could share many more: John 1:1 and 17-18 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him."  John 8:57-59 -

John tells us very clearly who can be considered a child of God. Are you His child today? If you are not sure, consider these words very carefully... and let me encourage you to be a part of God's family. You enter through the gift of eternal life provided through Jesus. Jesus earned the way to the Father's house for us all through taking our sins upon Himself and dying in our place. And so He offers the gift of eternal life if you will receive it. How do you receive it? Believe. Believe that the gift is for you. "There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:9–13).

The Bible describes God's voice in several ways... But what is the most important one for us to consider today?

This chapter has got to be one of the highlights of the whole book of Mark! In this chapter we find the reason for the incarnation. The reason Jesus took on human flesh. He did so that it might be torn, rent in two as the veil of the Temple was rent when He died. And in that rending - it was finished. What? Prophecies of Jesus' birth are so amazing because they cannot be manipulated. You can’t control where you are born. And so the prophet Micah states, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” (Micah 5:2).  What an amazing accurate prophecy of Jesus’ birth over 700 years before He was born! It says this Messiah - will be Ruler over all Israel. And yet the one born will have been from all time past. Our Messiah and King is Alpha and Omega - the never-changing I Am!

In life’s battles it is so foolish to trust in human strength. "Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies. Yes, help and victory comes from God. Ask Him for strength for the day. Endurance for the fight And victory in the end.

What do you do in the difficulties and storms of life? The best place to turn is to God - be still and know that He is God. Notice that He is in control. Spend time in His presence by being still - stop fretting and know God. Whatever you are facing today, face it by drawing near to God. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Did Jesus celebrate Hanukkah? The Bible states, Jesus came into the Temple on the feast of Dedication. So, yes, the Lord - the Light of the World, the Light of Israel… came to the Temple on the Festival of lights to offer eternal life to all who would follow Him: It was now winter, and Jesus was in Jerusalem at the time of Hanukkah, the Festival of Dedication. 23 He was in the Temple, walking through the section known as Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The people surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” Jesus replied, “I have already told you, and you don’t believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father’s name. But you don’t believe me because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them

The Psalmist says: “My help comes from the Lord  Who made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:1-2). Come to God for help today because  He made all that you see. There is no limit to His power, a nd He is always ready to hear your prayer. When life overwhelms me And I feel ready to falter I come to my Father With unlimited power Who made all that I see And welcomes every plea.

What is real love? God tells us in 1 John:  This is real love - Not that we loved God. But that He love us… And sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.  Love is an action word. And so the greatest act of love was from God As He gave His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

At times you may feel like He is not listening. But God assures you He is not sleeping.  "My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps."  Take comfort. Keep waiting and asking the Lord for Help through HIs Son. He is not sleeping, He is listening and He is able.

Let's dive into Mark Chapter 13 as we consider Jesus' Olivet Discourse and end times prophecy. This Fall we're digging into the Gospel of Mark and gain a great understanding of that book and sharpen our skills at Inductive Bible Study.  

This is one of the most important I Am statements of Jesus in the book of John. Jesus states that He is the highway to heaven. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me'" (John 14:6).  We have access to God the Father and His presence only through His sacrificial Lamb. Praise God for His Son!

Advent comes from the Latin word adventus "coming; arrival." During this season we consider the fact that Christ Jesus has come. He took on human flesh that He might become a sacrifice for our sin. This is God’s Greatest Gift to the world and to you. We also look forward to His second coming! Even so come Lord Jesus, make all things wrong right and bring all to your glorious Gospel light. Join me for a few devotional thoughts in the days to come about Jesus arrival there in Bethlehem and what His coming means for you and for me.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN PEOPLE MISTREAT YOU? My pastor used to say to k eep 50:20 vision. And then he would point to Genesis 50:20. In that passage we find Joseph's helpful perspective on #forgiveness Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and sold as a slave. Because they thought it would be better to get money than kill him. At least he is good for 30 pieces of silver. Fast forward and he is the king of all Egypt and they come groveling for food and favor. H E STATES - YOU MEANT IT FOR EVIL BUT GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD!-- "But Joseph said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.' So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them" (Genesis 50:19–21). Amazing 50:20 perspective. Trust God through the pain today my friend… And understand that God ca

God is with you! What an encouraging truth! Let me encourage you to follow rest in the Lord's presence today. Even if your current circumstances are a little inconvenient - like say, a den of hungry lions, or a raging furnace designed to burn you. If God wills you stand there unharmed - you will stand. So stand with Christ today and be bold as a lion! What an encouraging truth from the book of Daniel. He said, “Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!” Daniel 3:25

It's quite a verse in the Bible. It will make you shake your head when reading it. And its practical too. Listen to Peter: "The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other" (1 Peter 4:7-8). As you know the end is closer. You know that our prayers must be more fervent and our love for others must grow. The end of the world is coming soon - so, pray fervently and love one another.

Happy Thanksgiving! Consider with me: Five Ways to Foster #Praise 1. Be the top 10 Percent Jesus healed the ten lepers and then asked them to go to the priest to show their cleansing, only one returned to thank Him. Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they?" (Luke 17:16–17). It is sad that so few thank, the Lord so we should be among that top one percent. Please do that today. Please honor the Lord with your Gratitude. And as you do, you can thank Him first of all for the inner spiritual cleansing from the leprosy of sin. This week we are going through the I AM statements of Jesus in John's Gospel. Jesus reveals to us that He is the door. Of course this revelation is in the context of the Shepherd of the Sheep, so He is the one that gives access to the sheepfold where it is safe and He is able to protect them. But you have to come through Him. Jesus is the door, the gate. If you are trying to gain entrance into God’s family by your own works, or by some religious ritual, you have not gained access. Come through Christ and Christ alone. He welcomes you to His fold.

As Jesus states Who He is in His own words, He says: I am the Good Shepherd. So the Lord gives us protection, guidance, provision. And He is GOOD! All He does is Good! Of course He proves that by the next phrase: The Good Shepherd gives His life for the Sheep. Jesus gave up His life on the cross to pay the penalty that our sin deserved. Praise God for being our GOOD SHEPHERD. “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep" (John 10:14–15).

Pain is not easy. Difficult times and trials all come to us but who wants to endure them?! No one. So, its good to remember God's positive purposes in our most difficult times. Consider it all joy, James tells us! James tells us this stretching makes us stronger."Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing" (James 1:2–4, NLT) If our tendons are not stretched they become brittle and break. Same with this band. This illustrates One purpose in our Pain. As trials come, it stretches our faith and that causes us to be stronger spiritually. The more trial, the more endurance till we are complete! No pain no gain. SO my friend, put on the spectacles of faith and take some sense of joy even in that trial that tests you today -

People do so many crazy things to Please God... they try to work their way to Him. But He has revealed what is the necessary condition of the heart - faith. Believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.  Seek Him today in His Word! Open the Bible and listen to the message of His love and compassion for you and for all humanity. He sent His Son, Jesus to die on your behalf and usher you into His glorious kingdom.  Hebrews 11:6 (NASB95) And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. This week we'll be looking at passages in the Faith chapter to grow our faith in God. #Faith #Gospel

Happy veterans day! Thanks to each of you who have served in a military capacity. The country wants you to serve. WELL IT IS SO COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT GOD WANTS YOU! Jesus states that He will draw all men to Himself. He was lifted up to demonstrate that. He took upon your sin, went to the cross and died in your place to welcome you - not to His military - but to His family. The Father wants you in His spiritual family today. Turn from your sin and trust Him today! John 12:32–33 (NASB95) 32“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” 33But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.

We know that the high priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Hollies only once a year. That was just a picture of where Christ went to gain access into the real tabernacle, the one made without hands - God's very presence. And He went with His own blood - securing our redemption, which brings us into the veil as well. Let us enter there with full confidence in the work of Christ. Let us enter boldly, regularly, daily, repeatedly with praise, petition, and thanksgiving. The access to God in prayer is the most amazing privilege we have. Hebrews 9:24–28 24For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifes

God’s attitude about divorce is not a mystery. He is clear in His Word on repeated occasions. Now, whether we want to hear His perspective is another matter. Christians must hear Him. Marriage relationships get very tangled, messy, and difficult. And the amount of time we live together in a marriage relationship is more than any other earthly relationship. So, it is all encompassing. The minor irritations become nonstop ones. The major issues become extremely difficult – and without Christ, even impossible. Yes, marriage takes work for everyone. Yes, we need to work all the time to make marriage work well. And that is emotionally draining. There are many factors that go into making marriage difficult. Spouses that don’t care. Spouses that aren’t there. Spouses that don’t have the same goals or don’t even have spiritual life. There are other occasions where separation is essential. A spouse may have very ill motives or aspirations toward another. So how can you stick with it? Well, let’

Walking in Queens yesterday, I found some people offering incense in a religious ritual (not the normal smell from city streets). It was an interesting smell. But not my favorite. What does God want to smell? What aroma pleases Him? The best smelling spiritual perfume taught in the Bible is that sound of praise that we offer up to the Lord: "May my prayer be counted as incense before You; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering" (Ps 141:2). "To offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:4-5). "Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name" (Hebrews 13:15–16). This is a beautiful picture. As people offer incense and the smell rises up. As you offer praises, the sound rises up as a voice of praise to the Lord! Offer up the incense of praise to the Lord today!

1517 October 31st the eve of All Saints Day, when the Roman Catholic church would remember the merits of all the saints instead of Christ alone opposing Faith alone and Scripture alone, Martin Luther decided to challenge the scholars of the day about what was going on in church tradition. He didn’t plan to start a movement. But move he did. The nail in the door opened the door to the truth of the Gospel. The hammer thud sounds out ringing out across Europe and all across the globe to this day. What are the solas? What do they mean? Are they biblical? Sola means alone in Latin. These fives solas are summaries of principles that the Reformation stands for – not that Martin Luther or Zwingli or Huss came up with them… Luther didn’t print up t-shirts with 5 solas blaring on them.But as we look back at that time, we find that what began symbolically at that nailing of the grievances on the church door can be summarized in five principles – five “onlys”.   Lesson 2 - Mark Chapter 2-3

Do you need a fresh word from GOD? Actually, each time you open the Bible you have a fresh word from God. It is new every morning as God’s Spirit speaks with you. But if you are looking for something better, or someone to share something more you will always be disappointed. THE BIBLE WILL EQUIP YOU FOR - EVERY GOOD WORK. Equip has reference to a room having all that it needs. It needs nothing else. YOU HAVE ALL YOU NEED TO DO ALL YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO . . . in the Bible. The Bible term for this is sufficiency.  Bible Driven Christians believe that the Bible is sufficient. If you believe that - then if you are not in the Word then you are not equipping yourself. You stand today unequipped to fulfill the work God has for you. So get in the Word my friend!

Another encouraging “God is…” Today. It is another defensive metaphor. God is my fortress. Psalm 27 states: "The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?" The text states the emotional rest the person has based on the strength of the fortress. A fortress is where you run to be safe when under attack. And the strength of the fortress correlates directly to the feelings of security of those who dwell there. Our God is Almighty. He is an impenetrable fortress. So rest. Rest secure in His Presence. One of satan’s tactics of fear is to cause Christians to dwell on him and his minions instead of considering the strength of our GOD. Don’t stare out the window at the formations of your enemy. Rest in the comfort and consolation of God as your Fortress!

  Danger! The Trend of Ticklish Teaching The Bible warns of a time when people will stack up teachers who will just give them what their desires want to hear… Like an ear that wants to be itched. They search and search and search till they find someone who will tell them that what they desire to do is right… And as they do this, they will reject wholesome teaching. .. teaching that will heal… at times that means – don’t do what that desire wants to do. So BE CAREFUL WHAT AND WHO YOU FOLLOW AND LISTEN TO: Are they teaching the WHOLESOME WORD – THE BIBLE – or just meandering over what people want to hear? 2 Timothy 4:3–4 (NLT) 3For a time is comixng when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

Hiking at night without a light or lamp is very dangerous... I nearly walked into a ditch last night after just a few steps. In the same way, it is not safe to go a few steps in our own lives without the Light of God's Word. Follow it closely. It will keep you out of the ditch! "Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105).

Where does God live? There's an amazing prophecy in Isaiah 57:15 that gives the answer. "For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: So God lives in eternity, in the realm of the infinite, that which is outside of time. This is a realm we cannot enter on our own. It is high, holy, and above us. A different dimension of existence altogether. And the One who is I AM dwells there - before Abraham was He IS. Mind-blowing truth there! But it gets richer still friend: The verse goes on to say that He also dwells with the person Who is contrite and humble. 'I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.'" As we humble our self-righteous soul and come to God for forgiveness through His Gospel, He dwells with us. He delights to be Immanuel. God with you. What a glorious, gracious God! Holy and Lowly.

Finding the High Ground in Life’s FLOODS We’ve had six inches of rain here in NYC and I’m reminded again of the destructive power of floods… and the powerful illustration that Jesus gives to end his most famous sermon on the mount. I wonder if it began to rain there on the hillside causing Him to close… If a building is built on a strong rock foundation it will stand the storms of life. If its built on sand or any substance that will not stand, it will be destroyed when the floods and rain fall. AND SO JESUS STATES – LIFE BRINGS FLOODS> You can’t stand without building your life on His Words. He compares following His teaching as the only way to stand solid in life. Build your life on Jesus Christ today my friends!   Matthew 7:24–29 (NASB95) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. What does God look like? The Bible says:   18 No one has ever seen God,   So we can’t draw our own image of what we want God to be like. But the verse goes on and reveals to us what He looks like.   but the one and only Son, (Jesus) who is himself God and  is in closest relationship with the Father,  has made him known.   So if you want to know what God looks like… Open your Bible and read about Jesus. Let me encourage you to open the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and read them in this light. I’m learning more about God as He desires me to see HIm. How encouraging!
