Perhaps you have come across a difficulty this week. I guess most weeks we do. But some weeks the difficulties go from pot holes in front of us to grand canyons... What should our perspective be when we face rough roads. Why does God allow those?!

Well, consider God's leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt. First, He led them the long way around because they were not ready to take the short cut yet. They still had to grow in faith before they were able to fight the battles they would need to later. At times, the Lord leads us the long way around in life because He knows we are not yet ready for the fight (Exodus 13:17-18).

"When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, 'If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.' So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle'" (Exodus 13:17–18).

Second, He led them "between a rock and a hard place." They went straight to the wall of the Red Sea with Egypt's army breathing down their neck. God states that He did this in order to demonstrate His power and His glory. "Tell the people to get moving!... My great glory will be displayed through Pharaoh and his troops.. all Egypt will see my glory and know that I am the Lord" (Exodus 14:15-18)!

Now, we don't often get to know exactly what God's purposes in the times we have to go "the long way around" or are placed "between a rock and a hard place." But remember that He does use those times, and as we continue to wait and trust, He will make His purposes known. Continue to trust in Him my friends!
