The Three Eclipses of the Bible and What They Mean Our eyes come across three eclipses in the Bible. The first one is when God judged Egypt for mistreating His children. This was one of the ninth of ten plagues... the final one before total rejection. "So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days" (Exodus 10:22). The second is the glorious one when Jesus is on the cross and the wrath of God for our sin is placed on Him. This darkness too lasted three hours. IN this time, God's wrath, the judgment for the sins of humanity was placed upon Jesus and He died in our place. "Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour" (Matthew 27:45). The third eclipse mentioned is yet to come.
