  Honey is good for all of us. But its also good for our taste. So is wisdom from heaven! It is pleasant but it is also extremely good for us!

What’s the greatest Christmas gift you’ve ever received? That’s an easy one it is the first Christmas gift, Christ Himself! Consider a few amazing features to this gift today:   First, Jesus is gifted to the world from the Father. What an amazingly expensive gift! Jesus wrapped in rags, given to the world as a Savior. “Name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). Through Him we have peace with God, although planned from eternity, gifted to us in time as the little baby in Bethlehem. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life (John 3:16)!    Second, the gift of Jesus Christ grants us eternal life. The Bibles states that clearly: “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life” (1 John 5:11–12). As you come to Jesus as Savior and Lord...

  One of my favorite prophecies in Isaiah really details the amazing nature of Jesus birth. Listen to these amazing words and accept the peace that God gives in giving Christ to us!

  How do we find God's strength? I love the picture given to Zachariah. As he saw a lamp constantly filled with olive trees, so too is God's Spirit, indwelling and enabling His good desires. God's secret to His strength is His Spirit: "Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord."

  Great verse of the day today! When we look at the future it's impossible to know what's coming next. But its helpful to know that the Lord sets those plans and will accomplish the purposes He has for us!

So many elements in the Christmas Narrative are counter intuitive. If you were to make up a story on which to bring the Ruler of the World, the Messiah, you would not think to string together this cast of characters. After all, would the Maker of the world not use more prestigious people to introduce His coming into that world? Not our Lord. Luke brings this out so clearly.    Of course, Mary and Joseph are far from what appears to be Royal. Though they both trace their lineage to King David. They are far from ideal. They have nothing—no resources, no comfort, no cottage, no medical team (what did Dr. Luke think of that!). But God said yes to them.   The same is true of the first ones who received this amazing news. Perhaps they were singing the Psalms of David when it happened. Their job as shepherds was not noble, perhaps even despised by some. But they did it well and they knew they too had a tie to King David for on those same hillsides King David risked life and limb...

  What does the water teach us about God? Psalm 137 shares with us that God made it such a way that it demonstrates His ever constant love.

  Our reading in Nahum today gave us a great picture of Who the Lord is to those who trust Him. He is our stronghold. Our place of refuge and hiding. Of corse, if we resist Him, He will oppose us. SO be sure to make Him your eternal refuge through His Son, Jesus Christ.

  There is great joy this time of year. But is the story real? Well, of course. And one very important facet is understanding that Jesus' birth was #prophesied 700 years before He was born. And Micah even pinpoints the exact town.

One of the amazing scenes of the Christmas story is when John leaps in Elizabeth’s womb in response to hearing Mary’s voice. What an amazing symbol that Jesus is the Savior of the world and that John will be the forerunner that points us to Him. Let us learn from John and rejoice at His coming today!

As the miracle of Elizabeth and Zacharias having this prophesied child unfolds, her young relative makes a visit. And she too has had a miraculous pregnancy. Elizabeth is six months along now and receives some much-needed help from her young relative, Mary, who is expecting as well. But the child she carries is our Lord Jesus. And she is less than one week along.   Perhaps Elizabeth is Mary’s aunt. We’re not sure. But what a scene as she enters! Elizabeth’s child, John, leaps in her womb as he is filled with the Holy Spirit—Yes, six-month-old John. And after her baby leaps in her womb, Elizabeth shares a beautiful praise! Take a moment to read Luke’s account:   “At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeti...

We’ll look at 12 characters of Christmas for the 12 days leading up to the day we set aside to commemorate Jesus' birth. Today, 12 days before, we learn about Zacharias and how God is at work in the silence.    Zacharias was elderly. He served the Lord as a priest and honored the Lord with his wife living a godly testimony. But he and Elizabeth were barren and yet desperately desired a child. But God’s purposes were even greater. That is always the case. His ways are higher than our ways and He is often working in the silence, in the times of waiting, in our periods of wondering what God is doing behind the scenes—these are still times when He is working. We must trust His will and His perfect way in the silence.   Zacharias and Elizabeth did just that. As Luke tells us, Zacharias is chosen by lot out of about 18,000 priests to minister one day in the Temple. The famine that we should fear the most is that of the very Words of God. May we eat daily from His Word!

  The Psalm for today encourages us to trust in the Lord. No one can trust their own works. If God marks those iniquities, no one can stand before Him! We must trust in Him and find forgiveness through the Gospel.

  What does the name Jesus mean? It is an English translation of a Greek word... which is in turn a Greek translation of a Hebrew name - Joshua. And in Hebrew that name means Yahweh saves! What a great name! And that is His mission to save us from our sins.

What is justification and who has it? Romans 4 and 5 shares us the lesson of Abraham and how he was justified... and how you are able to receive this same gift of justification. 

Abraham had hope against hope. What a great testimony of someone who didn't waver because of their circumstances but grew in faith in God's promises. This is an inspiring lesson to keep our faith in God's promises in spite of difficult circumstances.

  Hosea has a stark message to Israel. They have been unfaithful to His covenant, but it goes back to a lack of knowledge. But what kind of knowledge?

I was encouraged by today's verse from 1 John 5 where we're told to keep our hearts from idols. It's a command that is for our own heart. The NLT translates it this way: Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts (1 John 5:21; NLT)

  I love Isaiah 25 and 26. I've enjoyed meditating on these chapters as they proclaim the cross so boldly from the mountain of God. But they also give the side effects of the cross. One is joy and rejoicing. The other is peace. In fact peace upon peace. The Hebrew concept for Great Peace... or perfect peace. Who has this peace?

  When we think of the reasons to read the Bible, this is one of the big ones. As you read it the Words of Christ, your faith grows. So if you need more faith, you need more of the Word of Christ!

  One of the most amazing prophecies in the Bible details the timeline till the coming of the Messiah. This is written 538 years before Jesus and yet it pinpoints the year of His crucifixion and states that this would be to atone for sin! What an amazing detailed account of the Messiah. This is proof that Jesus is the Messiah and that the Bible is supernatural.

  God loves you and wants you to follow Him! But, if you find your heart wandering into temptation, pray this prayer from the final verse of Psalm 119: I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands. Psalm 119:176 (NLT)

  Psalm 119 gives great motivation to follow and please God's through obeying His Word. One of these truths is that He sees all we do. For this reason, we want to follow in HIs pathway.

  Stuff calls out to us for satisfaction. But buying, receiving or gaining more stuff never satisfies our soul. The Bible states the heart of man is never content. That’s part of our broken nature. The iPhone 85 will not make us as happy as the iPhone 16. So, we need to rise above that and find our contentment in the eternal God! Stuff will not satisfy the soul of man. Proverbs 27:20 (NASB95) 20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, Nor are the eyes of man ever satisfied.

  Thanksgiving is about... giving. Go beyond just a state of mind or a day for thanks. Thanks giving must be to a Person... to God. If we are not expressing our giving to God, then we are not truly celebrating thanksgiving.

  I love this verse. It so encourages us to pray with such a comforting reason. Why cast your care in prayer? Because God cares. Thank you Lord for being a God who cares! Meditate on 1 Peter 5:7.

  Jesus appears all throughout the Bible... especially the Old Testament. In Daniel 3:25 , He walks with the three Hebrew children through the valley of death of the furnace flames. And as He walks with them, Nebuchadnezzar cries out - this is One like the Son of God. Yes, He is the Son of God - King of the fire. What is fascinating about that appearance of Christ is that the previous chapter Jesus' eternal rule that would run over all kingdoms is prophesied. Yes, Jesus is the stone cut without hands Whose rule will envelop all the earth.

  How can you win the battle for your soul? Well one step is to abstain from desires that draw us away from God - Peter compels us: Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul (1 Peter 2:11 ).

  Today we start one of a million long short series?! Well, we may not make it through all of them, but let's consider a million reasons to read your Bible. Reason 1 - Meet your Maker?!

  What is the most powerful force on earth? IT IS PRAYER! Why? Because it connects us to heaven. And God is all powerful!

  James gives so much practical wisdom. What is wisdom from above? Listen to this fantastic description!

  There are few passages in the Old Testament that more clearly portray Christ than Psalm 118. It is amazing! It portrays His rejection, death, resurrection and triumphal entry.

  We must believe in Jesus. Without faith it is impossible to please God. We are justified by faith. But this faith is not just the statement of the facts of the historical Jesus. This faith is a trust in Who He is as Savior and Lord so that we follow Him. The demons believe and tremble. The disciples believe and follow.

  God shares with Israel His solution to their lack of obedience... It is the grace to obey through His Spirit's enabling help. This is prophesied 500 years before Pentecost.

  How do we have peace with God? Through trusting in His provision - the Gospel of His Son. Christ died for our sins! Romans 5:1 states this so clearly. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ...

  What do you own? It might not be much. But as we follow Christ in the Gospel, we look forward to an inheritance that's out of this world... And is the whole world as well

We want to provide healthy conditions for growth. Well, the Bible shares how we can find that. Consider Ephesians 4 as the blueprint for Christian growth. And there's a two-word prepositional phrase that points us to the great greenhouse for all Christian growth. If you do not have these two words, you will not have spiritual growth.

Certain prophecies change our expectations... This one sure did for the religious leaders of Jesus' day. And as He challenged them to believe it, He was challenging them to accept Him as Lord. Let's learn from David, and follow Jesus as Lord! And, might I add, do it before you are forced to by His strong arm. "The LORD says to my Lord: 'Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet'" (Psalm 110:1)

  The book of Proverbs is so practical! In today's Proverb we get some very helpful wisdom about friendship.

  Psalm 145 is one of my favorites. Each phrase has truth to chew on throughout the day. Today it was this one for me: 18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. The idea that God is near can be a terror... without the cross. But Jesus has brought Him near. And He has done it through His cross. He is that ruth that enables me to truthfully and sincerely draw near to Him... in my flesh I cannot draw near in truth.

  What do you need to please God? Well, its actually what you don't need. You don't need to trust yourself, your works, or your own wisdom. The Bible says, "without ______, it is impossible to please God." What is the answer to that blank?

  A great Proverb for today - if you feel like there's a problem ahead; precede cautiously... And if you need to - change directions!

  The Old Testament gives so many good principles. And it speaks of our Lord . . . in shadows. But as Christ came, so came the reality of which the shadow spoke.

  God delights to forgive?! Yes, absolutely. We often think of that as a very important principle in the New Testament but it taught so clearly in the Old Testament as well. Let's find hope in the Lord's desire not to punish but to forgive as He punishes Himself in our stead! Consider Ezekiel.

  Another amazing group of prophecies comes from the promise of a New Covenant to Israel. In these God promises so many things. In Ezekiel He promises an eternal covenant and it comes through Atonement.

If we draw near to God He will draw near to us... But how do we draw near to Him? We must come the way He says.

As we look at election day, we need to look into our Bibles and remember who is the winner of every election ever! This side wins that side wins. At times that has been received with blood on the streets. The Book of Daniel is written to calm everyone to know that God is sovereign over every reign. THE MOST POWERFUL OF DICTATORS HAD TOS AY THAT WHEN GOD HUMBLED HIM: Daniel 4:35 (NASB95) 35“All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’ Even those who oppose God will find themselves coming up short. He is in charge. So don’t fear my friends. God is sovereign. No matter who wins… God wins - Make sure you are on His side.

  This is an amazing Bible study as you look at it in context. As Ezekiel prophecies of the Glory of God leaving (through a vision), the Lord prophecies through him of a future time when there would be a New Spirit given... This is fulfilled 600 years later in the book of Acts 2:3-4.

  Does God want to save you? Well, that's a good question. According to 1 Timothy 2, the Bible states that God wants to save all! #salvation #forgiveness

  As we read about Ezekiel, Isaiah, and John appear before the glory of God, we see them fall on their face. And yet, we find because of Jesus we have access into His thorne room. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16 ).

  Lamentations 3 continues to show so many great truths about God. Why is He great? Let's take a look!

  Satan is rendered powerless? In what way and how?

Lamentations 3 gives one of the most precious paragraphs in the Bible. Here Jeremiah puts aside the pain of great loss and meditates on the glory of God. Wherever you are today, let me encourage you to pause and be encouraged by these truths.

  We should not look at our circumstances to determine God's love. Where do we look? The stedfast character that He shows in His covenant mercy.

  Isaiah gives us the pathway to perfect peace of heart.

  God shares with Timothy how to be ready for the last days all through out the letter of 2 Timothy. Its a good one to read right from beginning to end. But a great little section in chapter three gives a description of end times and the way to be ready for them.

  I'd love to share a few times that Jesus appears in #Genesis . It seems like its about every chapter... Maybe not each chapter but nearly every chapter. This is one of the first ones. Consider in Genesis 3.

  This is a very important question. First of all, it speaks of God's majesty. But it also makes sense of all that we see logically. If everything we know has a cause, then something must have been a first cause... that first Cause is our Creator God. And He has no beginning of days. As the Psalmist says in our short today.

  I love illustrations. The Bible shares with us six things that are never satisfied... One is rain. Another we might add to the list from Scripture is our heart. So how can we be satisfied? Todays Psalm of the day shared that secret to satisfaction.

  Is money the root of all evil? Well, it can be, but what does the text actually say?

  How can we summarize the Bible in just a word? Jesus did just that. He shares a summary of the whole law... or at least its demands. And yet, in the Gospel it really summarizes all of the Bible. God's love for us and our response in love back to Him and all He has given to us.

  This prophecy had escaped my notice till this year going through the #Bible . As Jeremiah prophecies of Jesus about 600 years before He is born, he talks about a time of salvation when David's branch would come to bring justice on the earth... and salvation in Judah. And it would be called the Lord our righteousness... And this would be a time when shepherds once again keep their flocks in the hillside surrounding Jerusalem. This is why the angels came to announce Jesus' birth to the shepherds on the hillside of Bethlehem.

  Is there anything that God cannot do? Let's look at Jeremiah.

  The Lord gives so many great promises in the book of Jeremiah. In this one He shares His amazing love and how long it lasts.

  God has plans for us! That's one of the most famous #Bible verses in Jeremiah. What should we learn from this passage? Let's trust His plans!

The sun is an unimaginable source of power and is essential for our human living and thriving... And so it is a good illustration or similarity of what our God is to us. Consider how He is our sun and shield from this Psalm.

  I've been so encouraged by this prayer lately. And I hadn't read it this way before. Paul prays that the things their faith prompts would be granted God's power...

So many prophecies share how great God is in pre-publishing what He will do in our lives through Christ. These share not only that Jesus is the son of God... but that the Bible is supernatural. Let's look this one from Jeremiah. This portrays the Gospel as well as Jesus birth.

  There's much talk about the "end times" today... As we see different signs of Christ's return. And so, I'm asked about if there will be a rapture. Or I'm told that rapture is not in the Bible. Let's look at a verse and you decide.

  Yom Kippur is a holy day - day of covering or day of atonement. And although the goat's blood covered the sin, The Lamb of God's blood takes the penalty of sin forever.

  The Bible is very clear on how to get to God... and yet its not very well known. In fact the Bible uses that imagery. It says the broad way that leads to destruction is a very broad road. But the narrow way is the way to everlasting life. What is that way?

  Meditation can be a tricky thing... because it is used in religious practices of Buddhism and other Eastern religious. So Christian meditation is not that at all. It is not emptying our minds of everything... it is quite the opposite. It is filling our minds with the glory of God in His wonders and works. Let's follow the Psalmists example and find delight in Christian meditation.

  People will go to the stars to find what they should do in a day... but why not just turn to the God who made the stars? How do we do that?

  We should not be boastful. . . in fact, that pride is one thing that God hates! But there is something we can actually have as our boast - actually the Lord asks us to do so. Consider this verse in Jeremiah.

The old paths are best? True, because this one leads to soul rest. Consider the Lord's appeal from the book of Jeremiah.

  If someone tells you they will be there to help you that is comforting. If that person has no ability, its not that comforting. This is not the case with Jesus. As He promises to be with you, consider His ability today from Colossians.

  Jesus appears on the pages of Scripture throughout the Old Testament. In Jeremiah we find Him encouraging the young prophet when he is commissioning him. He appears and touches Jeremiah's lips.

  Why do the wicked prosper? That's a question that all of us have to wrestle with at one point or another in life. Of course not all wicked people do, but some who hate God seem to do very well in their CURRENT circumstances. So what do we think about that? Consider this Scripture.

Not only does Isaiah 53 predict the details of HIs death and HIs burial 700 years before His birth, it also predicts His resurrection. This is supernatural! Listen to Isaiah 53: Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

  Is Jesus God? Let's see what the Bible teaches. Philippians 2 has a fascinating statement that says Jesus was "equal with God" and in form as God before He came to earth. But then it goes on to claim something very significant bout His name! Consider Philippians 2 and Isaiah 45 side by side.

  What is the Christian Motivation for kindness? It is that God is kind to us!

It is supernatural that Not only is Jesus crucifixion predicted 700 years before Jesus was born, but details about HIs burial. Isaiah states: 9 His grave was assigned with wicked men,  Yet He was with a rich man in His death,  Isaiah 53:9 (NASB95) Jesus went to the criminals cross, the unthinkable capital punishment crucified  two people who actually had committed crimes to be punished. And yet He was buried in Joseph of Aramiathea’s tomb. A wealthy Jewish member of the Sanhedrin. The prophecy states this too. "Yet He was with a rich man in His death." It is truly unthinkable that both of these prophecies would be fulfilled in one man. And yet they were true of Jesus and His burial.
