Proverbs Word Study: The Words of the Wise

Proverbs Word Study: The Words of the Wise

Background: The book of Proverbs is located in the “Wisdom Literature” section of your Bible. These books give general principles about how to live life well. Proverbs shares more of these principles and sayings than any other book of the Bible. These general principles help us make wise decisions that will prosper u sin life. So, listen well!

Most of the book of Proverbs is written by Solomon and yet there are a few other contributors as well. Solomon writes his advice as a parent to a child. Perhaps you were not given much advice from your parents while growing up. Then treasure this book of pithy sayings. Often people read a Proverb a day so that they will read through the book once a month. You will find that these principles are loosely organized throughout the entire book. Below I have brought together and organized the references that have to do with our speech.

Instructions: Look up these references that deal with speech and fill in the blanks provided to complete the sentences. As you look up the references, you may be able to fill in the blanks quickly, but more importantly, you will discover the important life truths about how to live life well with our speech. Although you may be able to answer the blank with just reading one or two references. Let me encourage you to look up four or five to let the whole weight of advice influence your mind and heart.
