What is the safest place in times of life’s greatest troubles and storms? David knew great storms, and as he wrestled through one in a city, he confessed that God would hide him in the secret place of His presence. “How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You… You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues” (Psalm 31:19–20). No matter how harsh the conditions around us are, we can go to God’s presence for safety. We find rest and security in our minds when we know who the Lord is and that His presence is with us.   One of the holiest days of the year! Day of atonement! A great day to remember the once and for all sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. How does Yom Kippur preach Jesus?

When we see another shooting in a school where these that should be protected are taken advantage of. It is a very difficult situation. We pray for these families. And we ask the Lord to keep these things from happening again. But, when they do, who do you fault? Do you blame God? Can you blame God? Who should we blame? Let's consider a parable or an illustration to help us with this question.

When have you felt like you were about to crash? Perhaps you had too much to do, or perhaps you had too many circumstances that were mounting out of your control. Are you feeling precarious? Precarious times call for prayerful measures. Those precarious times may be our most important times because in those times we walk closely with the Lord. We sense the need for our Shepherd most when the dark clouds of difficult times and the thunder and lightning bolts of pain or loss cause our hearts to skip away from the outskirts of the Lord’s flock and walk as closely to Him as we can. While you are there, know that His presence comforts you. As David said, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Do what you can in each situation and then leave the rest in His hand. I’m struck with this in the life of Esther. Her life was totally upended when she was taken into a wicked man’s harem. He was the most powerful man on earth so she could not say no. But she prayed to the Lord. As...

As we finish reading the book of John in the Bible there is a very instructive conversation between Peter and Jesus. Peter had denied Jesus and even cursed and swore that he did not know Him. This was after his proud proclamation that even though all would deny Him Peter would not! What does Jesus do when speaking with Peter? He questions his love based on his actions, encouraging him to repent and follow. But He does not cast Peter off. He dusts him off, cleanses him and encourages him to follow and serve. Praise the Lord for HIs forgiving, wonderful grace!
