How much does God love you? It's out of this world!

Image
Psalm 103:11 says that God’s love toward us is greater than the heavens are higher than the earth! That is an incalculable amount, but we’ll give it a whirl = ) It’s difficult to catch the scale listening to a video – so, let me spell out the veggie/Empire State Building Scale of Gods love. If you consider the earth as the size of a pea, how does the solar system compare? Let’s put that right next to the Empire State Building. The moon comes only 30 earths away. So, the moon comes just ten inches off the ground. Not far at all (FACT! I said somewhere between your knee and waist, but only 10 inches, so unless you are a newborn, more like at your shin). Mars comes somewhere on the 10 th floor of the Empire State building. Just think of yourself sitting like a tiny speck on earth and yet you have to go ten floors up till you reach our first planet! The Sun is somewhere at the 26 th floor. We are a quarter of a way up the Empire State Building now, and our little pe

Why did Joshua kill the Canaanites? Facts and Faith

Image
This week's "Words of Grace Video" from Rego Park, Queens. As we consider some facts that build faith, we apply them to a question that some have asked me and perhaps you have wondered as well. Why would God ask the children if Israel to dispossess and destroy entire cities of Canaanites as they entered the promise land (Joshua), and throughout the remaining Old Testament? In our video this week, we look at three answers to this question.

Did Jesus marry Mary? Facts and Faith

Image
Did Jesus marry Mary? Facts and Faith - This week's video from Union Square.  What an odd question! Did Jesus Mary Mary Magdalene. There are many false views of Jesus which ones are correct? Can you trust the Bible more than the Gospel of Thomas which is not in the Bible?

Do you have spiritual vision? Understanding Proverbs 29:18

Image
One Proverb that I have heard misapplied often is Proverbs 29:18 . "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Let's take a look at the very important message that this verse teaches about spiritual vision.

Avoiding Life’s Potholes

Image
Satan loves to hurt and destroy. Be careful not to fall into his potholes. In this video we highlight three biblical principles to help us keep away from his temptations.

Ethics - How do we determine morality?

Image
This week's video - The question of right and wrong is an interesting topic, and one that our culture seems to shift around every new day. Is there a fixed standard of what is right and wrong?

Is exercise only of "little profit?"

Image
I often hear people quote 1 Timothy 4:8 to discourage exercise. Now, to be fair, those who quote it that way often do so with a grin. "Are you training for a race? Well, you know 'bodily discipline is only of little profit.'" But is that actually what the verse is saying? This is a first video in a new playlist on my YouTube Channel - "commonly misquoted verses."

You need the body!

You need the body! The body sure needs each part to work well. So too, the church body needs you to help it function properly.

Happy 4th! Do you celebrate His day His way?

Image
What would you think of someone who refused to celebrate the Fourth of July? Perhaps you would conclude that they were from another Country. You might even consider that they did not value the freedom gained here in the US through that Independence Day. There is another day of independence that is even more profound and eternally significant. This day commemorates the resurrection of Jesus. It remembers our deliverance from sin and the bondage to the Law because of His resurrection. This is true, eternal independence! And yet, some citizens of that heavenly country show very little incentive to meet together each Sunday, each Lord's Day, the true spiritual Independence day. Make each Sunday a significant day in your schedule to gather with the others in the church to celebrate Jesus' resurrection.

You are blessed!

Image
Our society likes focusing our attention on the "haves" and the "have-nots." If we are not careful, we can become discontent because we focus on things that we do not have. Or we can actually mistake material blessings for something that is very minor compared to all you have in Christ. Let's get our attention on what we have! The lasting blessings that all Christians possess.  Believer, you are blessed! It was Paul's prayer that the believers in Ephesus knew a little bit about the great blessings they have in Christ. Please take a few minutes to consider a few of these spiritual blessings you have in Christ. These are much more grand than any of the things our world prizes as the "finer life" of the "haves."

Finding Your Fortune

Image
Do you have much of value in this life? Perhaps you have more than you think. Over half of the world lives on about $2 a day. Perhaps most of you fall somewhere between the $2 and the Rockefeller family's 10 billion. The Bible talks about how we can find have complete delight whether we have $2 or 10 billion. In fact, it is the only way you can find lasting delight in this life. This is the first of a group of videos designed to help Christians find that delight which comes only in God.

Good Friday - Pierced for you!

Image
When we consider the sacrifice of our Lord, there are many components of His suffering. Of course we identify with His physical suffering. That is what we consider in this video. He was bruised, pierced, scourged and whipped to physical exhaustion before He was hung to a cross. But He also had to endure His Father forsaking Him. He had to endure bearing the sins of the whole world and suffering for that sin. This was the great sacrifice. And because of that sacrifice. The world's darkest day can be its brightest. It can truly be Good Friday!

Snow Teaches Grace

Image
The prophet Isaiah teaches us a powerful lesson through the picture of snow. "Come now, and let us reason together, said the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." The beautiful picture of a wooded spot covered with a clean, fresh blanket of snow teaches a deeper spiritual lesson.

Why do people kill people?

Image
Why do people kill people? This is a question we would rather not think about, until murder happens. And then the deep gnawing question of motive rises. Why destroy? Why harm when you can help heal? Parkland Fl. We are reeling again because of yet another horrific killing. This time in a high school in Parkland FL, and 17 innocent people were victims to someone else’s rage, and hatred. Our thoughts and prayers are with those family members. And as I watch unbelievably the coverage and interviews of other students who saw and heard the mass murder, you are crushed just to think of what these young minds are going through and how they are processing the emotions and struggles of such an ordeal. And so we must pray for that entire community. Our society needs to talk about many things in light of these disasters. And the tragedies force us to do so. How can we help? How can we engage our politicians? This is the question of what. What can be done? We will address th

Giving Groceries Giving Life

Image
Each week we love to hand out free groceries in our community. We have found this is a great way to share good things with the needy as well as to demonstrate that God's gift of eternal life is free. He died that we may live; He was punished for our sin; He was broken for our healing. Please Share this message with others!

New Year's Resolutions / Jonathan Edwards in NYC

Image
Jonathan Edwards pastored for just eight months in NYC and yet it was here that he penned many of his resolutions. Even as a young man of 18 and 19, he was passionate about a higher purpose for his life. He desired to live for God and to bring more attention to God’s greatness. The types of resolutions we set to change our lives communicate much about what we aspire too and who we are. What resolutions have you set this year? Have you made any that would be for God’s glory? Let me encourage you in at least one way. Resolve to abide in Christ. That is the very beginning of all other types of growing for God’s glory. This year, please include in your purposes for life change the principle of abiding in Christ. Spend time with him each day, allowing Him to change you more like Him each day. Our church is going through a study on how to develop this daily devotional time with God.  If you have not attended a class that helps you develop this area of your life, please join us!
